YO! YO! YO!, WE HAVE OUR WINNERS!
We are excited to today announce the winners of the YO!Fest Emerging Bands Contest. These five up-and-coming European talents were selected above 80 other applications from more than 20 countries. Their prize? To perform at the 5th edition of the continent’s coolest political festival, opening for Asian Dub Foundation, Puggy, La Fanfare en Pétard, Riva Starr and DJ Falcon on the 9th & 10th of May 2014 in Strasbourg, France.
And the winners are….
Chili and the Whalekillers, an Austrian/Icelandic indie-rock outfit. They will open for Puggy, Riva Starr & DJ Falcon on Saturday night at the Rhénus concert hall. The Vienna based band, has released three LP's since 2009 with their single “Turn” having climbed swiftly up the Icelandic charts.
Tedmo Festival, who will be opening for La Fanfare en Pétard and Asian Dub Foundation on Friday night at Place Kléber. This magnetic group brings a powerful fusion of rock and swing, intertwined with some unique onstage theatrics. Since 2012 they have shared stages with artists such as Tryo, Babylon Circus, Omar Perry, Ace of Clubs and Heymoonshaker.
The next two winners will perform on Saturday from 18:30 to 21:00 at YO!Village in front of the EU Parliament, they are:
Wilhelm, an Estonian fusion of jazz, soul and pop who won the Best Collective Prize of the ERMO Youth Band Contest in 2013; and
Funkindustry, a local group of funk pioneers not afraid to venture out to the edges of space and the depths of love.
